The North Country...

The Milepost costs about 35 dollars in a bookstore (cheaper on Amazon) and weights in at a little over 700 pages. What are you getting for your money? Well, Alaska is the journey of a lifetime for most visitors. Real wilderness is only half an hour from downtown Anchorage, the entry point for many travelers. In fact, Alaska and Northwest Canada offer an unsurpassed opportunity to experience a pre-urban world of rugged country, covered with forests, streams, lakes, mountains, tundra, glaciers, and lots of wildlife, where the traveler can spend hours or days out of sight of his or her fellow humans. The opportunities for outdoor adventure, whether hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, skiing, snow machining, dog sledding, fishing or hunting, are simply fantastic.

So why is The Milepost so valuable to this experience? Alaska and Northwest Canada have far less tourist infrastructure than what travelers may be used to in the lower '48 states or lower Canada. Gas stations, restaurants, and places to sleep may be few and far between, and what there is fills up quickly. Planning ahead is a great way to ensure a good experience, and the Milestone is just the planning resource that most visitors need.

Invaluable Travel Guide

I bought The Milepost for my recent trip to Alaska. I rented a car and drove from Anchorage to Homer to Seward to Whittier and back to Anchorage. 760 miles. Basically, the entire Kenai Peninsula. The Milepost was invaluable to me. It gave very specific directions, explained the highways, and highlighted places to stop on the way. I thought it was a better travel guide than others out there. Please note, it is a huge and weighty volume. I didn't carry the whole thing with me because I was flying to Alaska, and I didn't need the whole book. Instead, I removed the pages that pertained to my trip and took them with me. Once you purchase The Milepost, you can access it online and download it to one of your devices. I did download it to my tablet, but still took the pages because I wanted to be sure I had access to the information.Enjoy your trip! Alaska is beautiful!

About the Author
Geraldine McCaughrean has written over 140 books and plays for both adults and children, including Peter Pan in Scarlet, the official sequel to J M Barrie's Peter Pan, which was one of the most talked about and successful children's titles of 2006. Geraldine McCaughrean has won the Carnegie Medal, the Whitbread Children's Book Award (three times), the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize, the Smarties Bronze Award (four times), the Blue Peter Book of the Year award and the Blue Peter Special Book to Keep Forever award. Geraldine is the first author to have been short listed, by librarians, for the Carnegie Medal six times, on at least one occasion in each of the past four decades, thus once again recognising the quality of her writing over the years. Emma Chichester Clark trained at the Chelsea College of Art and The Royal College of Art before becoming a full-time illustrator. She was awarded the Mother Goose Award in 1988 as the most promising newcomer to children's book illustration. She has since illustrated a number of picture books and collections for Orchard Books, Andersen Press, Pavilion and Methuen. For Orchard Emma illustrated The Orchard Book of Greek Myths in 1992 and in 1997 The Orchard Book of Greek Gods and Goddesses. Both books have been retold by award-winning writer Geraldine McCaughrean, who has retold a number of the Orchard Collections. Emma's lively illustrations perfectly match the magic of the stories which bring characters of Ancient Greece strikingly to life. Emma was also chosen to be one of eight artists to illustrate The Orchard Book of Opera Stories retold by Adele Geras which was published last Autumn to much acclaim. In 1998 Emma has joined forces with major poet and playwright, Adrian Mitchell, to illustrate his retelling of Robin Hood in The Adventures of Robin Hood and Maid Marian published in June. Emma has also written and illustrated a number of her own books, including Tea with Aunt Augusta, Miss Bilberry's New House and Little Miss Muppet Counts to Ten. She also illustrated some collections written by Laura Cecil including A Thousand Yards of Sea (Methuen), and has recently illustrated Thumbelina (Pavilion) and Little Red Riding Hood (Macdonald Young Books). Interim judgement...

This is an interim review because the book is a birthday present for my grandson who will be 9 shortly and has just become interested in Greek and Roman myths. The publishers say that it is for the reading bracket 9-12 years. I hope so because my grandson is rather ahead of his age group. We'll see how he gets on with it after his birthday.

Great selection of stories / rather difficult language

The selection of stories for this book is great. It touches on myths that are usually not very well known. However, the language is a little too abstract for the intended audience. The Greek myths book of this same publisher is much better written.

About the Author
Joni Lamb is executive producer and co-host of Celebration, the daily flagship program of the Daystar Television Network, which she and husband Marcus, the network’s CEO, founded, built, and operate. The Lambs own more than 50 television stations reaching 75 million homes in the U.S. and every country across the globe, and theirs is the fastest-growing Christian television network in the world.

Joni also hosts the lively and sometimes unpredictable half-hour daily talk show bearing her name, which earned the National Religious Broadcast Association’s Best Talk Show Award in 2004. Broadcast twice daily, the Joni show features an array of notable guests and covers a wide range of relevant issues, controversial subjects, and hard-hitting news topics with candor and wit. Enjoyable read

I found this book to be a very easy read. I enjoyed it very much. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. It's uplifting, warm, encouraging, and I would highly recommend it to others.

Surrender All is a well written book and it tell about the author and her family and many more on her TV show. Joni Lamb is a tremendous Christian wife and mother. I bought two of her books one for my daughter and one for me.

Quick, interesting read

"Surrender All: Your Answer To Living with Peace, Power & Purpose" by Joni Lamb is a fairly quick, easy read that at times can come across as a little trite especially if you have recently suffered a type of crisis or tragedy in your life that she addresses in the book. However, just when you decide that she is oversimplifying some of life's greatest struggles, Mrs. Lamb will surprise you with a thought-provoking statement.

She discusses surrender in several areas of our lives such as marriage, children, career, and loss. Joni recounts dramatic, almost unbelievable at times, stories of extraordinary people who have had to surrender to God in the most difficult of circumstances. In fact, some of the stories she shares could have entire books written about them and really couldn't be covered in depth enough in this book which left me feeling as though she were a little bit flippant with them.

She also uses her own personal experience to share her uplifting, encouraging message of surrendering your all to God. Joni constantly reassures us that God will mend and restore all aspects of our lives including finances, health and relationships if we will just surrender them to Him. However, she is also very careful to make sure we understand that God hasn't promised us a life of ease as His children and that surrender doesn't guarantee a worry-free existence. Sometimes she flirts a little with the "prosperity gospel" or "name it and claim it theology" but mostly her advice seems to be grounded in Scripture. Most importantly, she makes sure to share the most significant story of surrender: Jesus.

Overall, Mrs. Lamb's book is an interesting read that should encourage you to examine your own life for areas that need surrender in order to bring about the peace you are longing for.

About the Author
Edward Allen, FAIS, has taught for more than thirty-five years as a faculty member at Yale University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and as an invited guest at institutions in the United States, South America, Europe, and Asia. Appears to be good - Not for me though

I am currently studying for the ARE (Architectural Registration Examination). I bought this book in hopes to have it help me learn new things with the book it goes with. However, the book does not come with answers and me being self taught, that is pretty much a must for me so that I have the ability to verify my solutions. If you were going to school and had an instructor that could rate your solutions, I am sure that this book would be great. That is why I give it four stars; I really can't complain about it only because it wasn't meant for me. I looked at a few of the questions and instantly realized that the problems were too basic for me, but that could be because I have been in the field of Architecture for about ten years now. If only I knew that it did not come with answers and that the problems were a little more advance, I would have been more happy. This book is more for a student.

This Book Tells It Like It Is

As a soon to be teacher, and part time archaeologist, this is by far the best book about archaeology for young kids I have found. It gives accurate information in fun, easy to understand language. My students were always interested in my summer and weekend work outside of the school. It was wonderful to find a book I could share with them that was not over their heads. My archaeology professor from college even borrowed it to share with his entry level classes.

This is the best book I've seen for children about archaeology! I am a professional archaeologist and this book covers ALL the misconceptions about what archaeologists really do while still making it sound like we have fun. I bought numerous copies of this book to give to nieces and nephews, neighbors, etc. I wish most of the adults I talk to about archaeology had read this book...I'd get a lot fewer question about my favorite dinosaur or about the most expensive artifact I have ever found!

A True Find!

From what I have seen, the "Lets Read and Find Out" series is very solid, but even within the series, this book stands out. Archeology is explained from the perspective of a story - kids are invited to help out real archeologists on a dig. And because it's real archeology, they have to learn about things like how and why to dig in plots, how and when to make plaster casts, etc. The detail was great enough that I - as a non-archeologist adult - learned a few things, but told compellingly and simply enough that my young daughter thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Archeology, like paleontology and geology (hmm, all have to do with digging in the dirt...) has its own coolness factor. But it is also useful in showing us how we learn about what happened in the past. This book definitely has the wow factor AND the "oh, so that's how/why it works" component. I really appreciate the author for respecting kids' intelligence and curiosity while also being able to weave a compelling story. Kudos! (Oh, and, if you're thinking about it, get this book!)

AMAZING Book! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I don't ever write reviews, but i will for this book, because it DESERVES it! Be You, Be Great was a phenomenal book about creating the best version of yourself. Antonio explains how to find your purpose and how to take action on that purpose. He explains how to find and bring out that greatness that's already inside you. Everybody is great in their own way, but many of us don't understand how to bring out that greatness. He explains and distinguishes what relationships will help you make the most out of yourself, as well as the things that could be holding you back from achieving your full potential. He does exactly what he says he will by helping you unleash your own unique greatness through helping you find your gift, giving you more clarity, more focus, more power in your everyday life, and most importantly, more freedom for yourself! This book will take you to the next level in relationships, life, and business. This book has honestly changed my life and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone! Thanks Antonio!

Be You, Be Great! is an amazing book for anyone looking to find inspiration in today's world. For those of you that are new to Antonio, his story is absolutely inspiring. It reminds us that anything is possible if you are willing to believe in yourself and take action! Unlike most mainstream authors, he does not define greatness by material possessions. Greatness is allowing yourself to be the best you possible. If you're not happy where you find yourself, change it. I truly appreciate Antonio for writing this book and allowing us a transparent view into his life. You are literally saving lives by your testimony. It is my prayer that God continues to bless you and open more doors for you to share how He has blessed your life. Be You, Be Great is an inspiring and motivational book! Whether your looking to your take Real Estate business to the next Level or Simply just looking for pure motivation this is the book for you. I'm glad Antonio decided to share his story and be someone that can be looked upon for strength and motivation be simply sharing his story and providing key principles to live by in his book Be You,Be Great!
