Medicore entry into the wild cards series

If you've made it this far into the Wild Cards series then you know what these books are like. Down and Dirty was a pretty decent entry into the series but it didn't have anything that set it apart from other volumes in the series. It told a more coherent story than Aces Abroad and ramps up for the third part of the set (Ace in the Hole) but earlier entries in the series were much better.

A gorgeous book for cat lovers

There are, in my opinion, two kinds of cat books. There are the kind for people who want to breed and show them, and books for people who just love these little creatures and want to know how best to care for them. This beautifully photographed book covers breeds from the familiar (the Shorthair house cat) to the exotic (Peterbald or Donskoy, anyone?) There is an emphasis on health and care, with a lot of thought to the animals' personality. There are sections on feeding, socializing your cat, inherited disorders, training your cat. Everything lovers of cats need to keep their babies healthy and happy. I love this book.

This book is very much loved by my cat crazy daughter. She is almost 7, but reads 3-4th grade level, so she reads out loud from it all the time (hoping I'd get her a cat). Plenty of pictures and writings are good.

I was delightfully surprised at all the information contained in this book. Not only are the various breeds shown in lovely colored pictures, there is valuable information as to the health and idiosyncrasies of each breed. There is a section for American shorthairs and longhair non pedigree cats too. There is information on how to care for your cat when well or sick. I really like this book very much. I would recommend it for anyone who wants to know more about cats and how to take care of cats.

About the Author
Ryokyu Endo was born in Tokyo in 1956 and lived in New York between the ages of ten and thirteen. He studied at the Japan Shiatsu School, graduating in 1978. For the following three years he studied psychotherapy and continued to study shiatsu under Shizuto Masunaga, author of Zen Shiatsu. in 1984, he taught shiatsu to doctors trained in Western medicine and treated patients at the Fukujuso Psychiatric Hospital, Okinawa. He then moved to Kyoto and further developed his method while healing and teaching. In 1991, he received a black belt in Aikido, completed his studies in Pure Land Buddhism, and wasordained as a Buddhist priest. He developed ki exercises, which he now teaches in Tao shiatsu seminars worldwide. He composes and performs music on traditional as well as modern instruments. Compact disc recordings of his compositions, The Song of Pure Land and others, are available through Midi Records in Japan and available by order from Tower Records worldwide.
